Benderson is holding a Neighborhood Workshop at Longwood Park (Room B) to propose an amendment to the “Binding Development Concept Plan” for their properties on either side of Shade Ave along University Parkway.
The change is to clarify that the “Office Use Category” of the zoning includes a “Free-Standing Emergency Department”, which is a 24/7, 365-day permanently open Emergency room. Most likely, it will be the equivalent of this facility:
ER at Fruitville | Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Florida
The full implications and trade-offs related to this change are not yet clear, so Desoto Acres neighbors who want to understand more are invited to attend the workshop on Monday at 6pm. At first glance, an ER center near the neighborhood seems a good idea, however there will certainly be ambulance activity, possibly around the clock, so understanding the noise effects could be important.
